While deciding whether to do it yourself or have the experts at Michiana Flooring do it, the project steps are below:

Cleaning The Shower Pan

The first thing to do is take out the old flooring. You will need a hammer, a crowbar, and a good set of chisels to break the old flooring up and separate it from the concrete. You can start from any point and remove the tiles as you find the ends of each tile and chisel it at an angle until it releases from the concrete. The main point is to leave nothing but smooth concrete. After every bit of the old flooring is removed and all the thin set or laminate glue scraped to a smooth surface, then he must wash down the concrete and get rid of dust. Dry concrete has a thin layer of dust that will keep the mixture from bonding if not removed.

Laying out the project

After the concrete shower pan is completely clean and dry, the installer must mix the thin set. He will pour about an inch and a half of water in a bucket and then add the thin set. He then mixes with a drill that has a whip attachment. Then he lets it set for 15 minutes. While the mixture dries to the proper consistency, the tile installer dry fits the tiles to find which pieces need marking for cutting. The installer then cuts the tiles to fit. The glass tile sheets can be cut diagonally with a utility knife. An expert tile layer then prepares the pan by removing any edges around the sides and any ridges left in the pan with a seven in one tool. He dry fits the mosaic again to make sure he has an exact layout for the tile.

Laying The Tile
The tile installer drops the thin set into the concrete pan using a corner trowel. He smooths it out over the pan with the flat edge of the trowel. After he has a layer of about 1/8 inch thick, he removes any excess thin set. The expert at laying mosaic tile then drags a thin layer of the thin set with the v-notched edge of the trowel and goes over the top lightly with the flat edge of the trowel so that the grooves don’t show through the glass tile.Place The Tiles
The installer lays down all the pieces that he has previously cut to fit. He puts all the full and half pieces in their places and presses down on the entire surface of each piece. And the, he fills the gaps with individual tile pieces that he has waiting.

Remove The Backing

To remove the backing, he must wet the back with a sponge and let it sit for ten minutes. He peels the paper off and scrubs any excess paper off the mosaic. The thin set cleaning from the joints is the last step.A shower tile installation video can be found at:http://www.diynetwork.com/video/shower-floor-tile-installation-0102846For the best mosaic shower tile installation trust the professionals at Michiana Flooring Experts in Elkhart Indiana.
